Snow you can count on
Breckenridge’s impressive elevation of 9,600 ft at the base and 12,998 ft at the summit plays a big part in boasting impressive snow-sure conditions.
The resort sees as many snow days in April as it does in December and February, and produces an average snowfall of 41 inches (104 cm). To put that into perspective, that’s 10 inches more than what the popular French resort Les Deux Alpes receives on average in its snowiest month!
In the past three years, Breckenridge's lifts closed on 23 May, 15 May and 21 May respectively, so there’s no need to be frantically checking the forecast in the weeks leading up to your departure.
Warm weather, cool atmosphere
With an average of 300 days of sunshine each year, the great thing about spring is that when it's not snowing, the skies are gloriously clear and temperatures are mild. Spring is just a fun time to be in Breckenridge, combining sensational skiing conditions with the laid-back atmosphere that comes with the warmer months.
Shell jackets, long sleeve or even short sleeve t-shirts are suitable attire for cruising through the ski area and sitting on the sundeck enjoying the stunning scenery with a cold one in hand. 'Breck Spring Fever' is the resort's annual month-long party with events running on mountain and in town. The pond skim is not to be missed!
Our top tip for April, bring the factor 50 and come to terms with returning to the UK with a serious goggle tan.
Fewer crowds, more runs
By April, the winter holiday rush and peak season dates are long gone. Fewer skiers on the mountain means shorter lift lines, less crowded slopes, and more space for you to enjoy all that fresh snow across Breckenridge's five varied peaks.
If you're travelling as a family you won't have to worry about the kids getting caught up in congestion. Ski school is so much more enjoyable when they're not worrying about other skiers and snowboarders around them.
And with the mountain quieter and heaps of diverse trails to choose from, everyone's skiing or boarding is bound to improve.
Progress in peace and build your confidence on the empty greens. Use every inch of the broad blues to carve out the perfect turn. Challenge yourself and push your limits on Breck’s steepest terrain. Once you’ve found your new favourite run, simply ski straight onto the next chair and help yourself to another lap.
Perfect conditions for exploring the town
Whilst there’s plenty to explore across Breckenridge’s 2,908 acre ski area, there’s even more to discover in the historic mining town. The warmer April weather regularly hits highs of 13°c down at the resort base, so you can drop your coat off after skiing and put on a fleece before exploring the town.
Breckenridge is home to a magnificent variety of bars and restaurants. Many of them are still thrumming with locals, however, you’ll have no trouble getting a table now the peak-season tourists are gone.
The pleasant weather and quiet streets create an ideal setting for exploring the town. As you stroll through the picturesque streets, you’ll find local museums, a cinema and even a recreation centre with tennis courts and an indoor rock climbing wall.
A tour of the award-winning Breckenridge Distillery is a must, or for even more shopping, hop on a short shuttle bus ride to Silverthorne where there are over 200 shops to browse.

Superb spring value
You’ll struggle to find a better value lift pass in North America than the Keystone Plus Pass at £317 per adult and £219 per child.
As the name suggests, this is actually a season pass for the nearby resort of Keystone but it also provides unlimited access to Breckenridge from 01 April, allowing you to ski for as little as £35 per day on a 10-night trip. You’ll spend most of your time in Breck but it’s definitely worth catching the free 30-minute Summit Stage shuttle to Keystone on a couple of the days.
For even more skiing, upgrade to an Epic Local Pass for £591 for additional unlimited access to Vail (45-minute drive) and Beaver Creek (60-minute drive). We recommend car hire for this.
It’s not only the lift pass that comes down in price in April, accommodation rates are at their lowest too - saving you as much as £1,350pp compared to travelling earlier in the season.
10 nights in Breckenridge in April starts from £1,750pp for 4 adults and from £1,755pp for 2 adults and 2 children (under 12), including flights, transfers and accommodation. View all Breckenridge ski packages and offers.
