Heavy Snow in North America Kicks Off the Season

It's official. The snow is here and the lifts are spinning, the 2024/25 season is underway in North America! In our first snow report of the year, we look at where's had the most snow and which resorts are already open for early-season turns.

We're hoping that this is a sign of things to come, with a high chance of La Niña in the coming months promising higher than average snowfall across North America. It's also good news for our customers and team - our first departures are a month today on 07 December.

There's still time to book a North American ski holiday this winter, but prices are set to rise by as much as £2,500pp in December so don't wait too long. Find out how you can save thousands by booking in November.

Without further ado, let’s dive right into some snowy snaps and stats!

Canada

Alberta

Kicking things off in Alberta, Lake Louise opened early on 5 November thanks to a week of good snowfall and cooler temperatures for snowmaking. Those staying in Banff will be pleased to hear that Sunshine Village will also be opening early tomorrow, with Mt Norquay joining the party next week.

Further north in Jasper, Marmot Basin has received 48cm of snow so far, and is planning to open on 15 November. There's another 21cm in the forecast over the coming days.

Don't forget that you can save an extra £100pp off Air Canada flights to Calgary when you book by 30 November! Banff is our best-value destination in North America this winter, but prices are set to rise next month.

10 nights in Alberta from £1,160pp

British Columbia

There’s been a load of fresh snow dumped in British Columbia in the last few days.

Whistler is looking as good as ever after 43cm in the last week - including 28cm in 48 hours! We've heard from the locals that there's as much as 80cm in the alpine, but the snow has made its way down to the village too.

There's currently 86cm in the forecast, perfect for opening day on 22 November and for my colleagues who are heading to Whistler in December.

This is a resort that has to be booked early, as prices rocket in early December once early booking offers end and the well-priced Whistler Blackcomb Day Pass goes off sale.

Across the rest of the province, Fernie is looking epic after deep snowfall, with 64cm in the past week. RED Mountain Resort, Big White, and Sun Peaks are starting to ramp up too, with all three looking in great stead already.

USA

Colorado

Colorado seems poised for a blockbuster winter.

The famous slopes of Breckenridge are set to open tomorrow (08 November) and it's hitting the ground running with plenty of heavy snow; 78cm this season, the fourth most across all our resorts.

It's a similar story across the rest of the state, with most resorts reporting over 50cm as they prepare to open up throughout November.

Oregon

The snow in Oregon is seriously piling up - unsurprising as the resorts of Mt Bachelor and Mt Hood regularly top our season snow charts.

Both mountains have received over a metre of snowfall, and Timberline (on Mt Hood) opened for a sneak preview last weekend!
