Best for Families

Fjords & Mountains in Norway

Want to combine easy-going, family-friendly skiing with dramatic scenery and fascinating city stays? Our Fjords and Mountains Ski Safari has got it all. You'll fly into Oslo where you can choose to stay for one night or head straight to Geilo for skiing.

You'll see some astounding scenery as you travel along the Oslo to Bergen railway line between resorts. This is one of the most famous railway journeys in the world - as you watch from the window, you'll pass fairytale, snow-laden forests, frozen waterfalls and vast, rolling mountain ranges.

The famous Bergen to Oslo Railway Line

Your first stop on the line is family-focussed Geilo where you'll ski some of Norway's best beginner-friendly terrain with the help of a world-class ski school. The skiing here is ideal for those who are just finding their feet on the slopes, with many green and blue runs going from the very top of the resort to the bottom.

Following your Geilo stay you'll rejoin the railway and make your way to the beautiful resort of Voss where the train stops right outside your hotel. This resort is also brilliant for beginners and families but has a little more to challenge those who have found their confidence on the snow. And if you prefer, you can swap to the gentle slopes of nearby Myrkdalen, renowned for its excellent snow conditions and wide, open runs.

Your final stop is the colourful city of Bergen, an iconic setting surrounded by peaks, lush forests, fjords and the ocean. You can stop here for a night or more so take the opportunity to wander around the wood-clad boathouse of Bryggen Hanseatic wharf or go and see the stunning views from Mount Fløyen before your flight home.

Best for Skiing and Northern Lights

Ski & Aurora Explorer in Norway

While a handful of ski resorts north of the Arctic Circle offer both skiing and chances of seeing the Aurora Borealis, the skiing can be more challenging and daylight skiing hours are limited until mid-February onwards. So we created the Ski Aurora & Explorer Ski Safari to give you the best of both worlds - season-long skiing for all abilities plus the chance to see the northern lights!

After a short transfer from Oslo, you'll begin your trip in Norway's largest ski resort, Trysil, where you'll spend five days getting your turns in on runs that suit every level of skier. Ever-popular Trysil is blessed with outstanding snow conditions and a good range of winter activities off the slopes. You'll quickly feel at home here, with warm and friendly locals who speak perfect English.

You'll then transfer back to Oslo for a two-and-a-half hour flight followed by a quick bus journey to your Arctic Circle destination of Tromsø. Here you'll have the chance to see one of the greatest shows on earth - take a boat cruise on the Aurora Explorer, ride the Aurora Safari Minibus or fly over the city on the Tromsø cable car at night for incredible views with the northern lights dancing overhead. On your final morning, it’s a short shuttle back to the airport for a direct flight home.

Best for Skiing and Scenery

Ski & Fjord Explorer in Norway

If you want to see the fjords while skiing some easy terrain, you should opt for the Ski & Fjord Explorer Safari. This trip gives you the chance to experience the beauty and serenity of the fjords during the quieter winter months (the cruise ships descend en masse in the summer) alongside some easy-going, beginner-friendly skiing.

After flying into Bergen and taking a scenic two-hour transfer on the Oslo to Bergen railway, you'll arrive in Myrkdalen, where you'll ski some of the best confidence-boosting slopes Norway has to offer. The resort is still relatively undiscovered, so there'll be no crowds to negotiate as you glide down wide, open runs, enjoying the world-class snow conditions. You'll stay at the 4* Myrkdalen Hotel, ideal accommodation for families, with interconnecting rooms, suites and a well-equipped playroom for the kids to enjoy in between hours on the slopes.

The second half of the trip is all about the scenery. You'll take an electric boat from the Viking village of Gudvangen across the dramatic Nærøyfjord and Aurlandsfjord to Flåm where you’ll spend two nights at the famous 4* Fretheim Hotel. From here you can explore the fjords at a pace of your choosing - enjoy the thrill of a high-speed rib boat ride, or take a snowshoe excursion up to the Stegastein Viewpoint. In the evening, taste your way through a Viking plank at the Ægir BrewPub - each dish is paired with a speciality beer brewed on-site!

Before you fly home from Oslo or Bergen, you'll have the chance to take a spectacular trip on the Flåm Railway. The twenty kilometre journey takes you through twenty tunnels past waterfalls and frozen landscape, ascending 867 metres to the mountaintop at Myrdal. You also have the opportunity to add an extra city stay in Oslo or Bergen to round off your trip.

Undiscovered Off-Piste in Norway

Enough relaxation, it's time to get the adrenaline pumping with the Undiscovered Off-Piste Ski Safari. Combining two of Norway's off-piste havens, Hemsedal and Myrkdalen, this ski safari tests you on tougher terrain in hidden ski areas in southern Norway.

In Hemsedal, you'll discover a rugged, alpine mountain area as well as the forested area of Gummiskogen down the backside of the resort, all with the convenience of ski-in ski-out accommodation right at the base of the slopes.

Myrkdalen offers a totally different experience, the huge off-piste area more characterised by rolling hills than alpine peaks. The regular snowfall makes it an absolute must if you have a penchant for powder, and if you're looking to improve on your technique, Myrkdalen has the highest-qualified ski school in Norway to help you raise your game.

Day five offers a particularly scenic highlight - as you drive from Hemsedal to Myrkdalen, you'll pass through the village of Flåm and witness the astounding Aurlandsfjord alongside the Nærøyfjord World Heritage Park, one of the most beautiful areas in Norway.

If you want to ski every minute possible, an evening flight home from Bergen on your last day will give you a final morning on the slopes.

Freeride the Fjords Norway

You've seen our Undiscovered Off-Piste Ski Safari. Well, our Freeride the Fjords Ski Safari cranks the difficulty up another notch. On this itinerary, you'll explore the lesser-skied spine of Norway where some of the terrain hits 45 degrees as you descend towards the frozen fjords at the base of the valleys.

If you need some time to recover afterwards, Oslo and Bergen are both easily accessible by rail for a city add-on before you fly home.

Best for Skiing in the Arctic

Arctic Circle in Sweden

If you can brave the chill, there is a land of untouched snow and off-the-beaten-track adventures to be had on the Arctic Circle Ski Safari. Not only will you ski the pristine arctic wilderness, but you'll do so from a comfortable hotel, with the slopes right outside.

Skiing in Björkliden's Backcountry
Skiers who travel to Björkliden's backcountry will find untouched snow waiting to be carved up

You'll spend the second half of your trip in Björkliden, a magical location with skiing for all abilities. We recommend hiring a guide to make the most of the outstanding off-piste terrain. There is a great range of non-ski activities here too if you want to rest your legs - you can go dogsledding, ride on a snowmobile tour, or take a trip to one of Sweden's longest cave systems.

An Added Extra...

Northern lights in Narvik

A recent addition to our programme, the fantastic resort of Narvik does not yet have its own ski safari. However, with a northerly latitude, incredible backcountry skiing and high chance of seeing the northern lights, we recommend it as a great addition to any of the trips above! In particular, it makes a great combination with our Arctic Circle Ski Safari, allowing you to ski three resorts north of the Arctic Circle and two countries - Norway and Sweden.
