Norway
As tested by our team in early February on a whirlwind road trip around seven resorts, Norway is in the midst of an unbelievable winter this season. The powder days have been plentiful and, with fewer people on the slopes than other destinations, the snow stays untracked for longer.
These three resorts are uncrowded even compared to other Norwegian resorts and are known for their late-season conditions. They all set the bar high for service levels too, from the food to the accommodation and the fantastic English-speaking ski schools.
Gausta
"We wanted to let you know how superb it is here on every level. The whole set-up is first class."
Our newest resort, Gausta is rightfully earning all the plaudits from our customers this winter, from the quality of the service to the quality of the snow.
Six of our team were lucky enough to enjoy two powder days here in early February too:
One of Norway's best-kept secrets, you can expect quiet, snow-sure slopes in Gausta right through to at least 14 April.
Late season is often the best time to ski the iconic Gaustatoppen mountain - visible from almost everywhere in the resort and accessible via a unique train ride up through the mountain. The snow base will be nice and deep and you're more likely to enjoy clear and calm weather.
Whether you prefer the independence of a cosy cabin or the flawless service and fantastic facilities of the Gaustablikk Fjellresort hotel, there's still availability throughout March and April including over the Easter school holidays.

Myrkdalen
"The skiing was much better and more extensive than we had imagined. No queues for lifts during the week and nobody on the slopes. The first day we skied all day and did not ski the same run twice. Options for off-piste all over the mountain for all levels of skier and boarder."
If snow is your biggest concern, then Norway's snowiest resort is your safest bet. Myrkdalen's location in the heart of Norway's west coast fjords means it receives huge snowfall all winter and as a result, it's developed a reputation for impeccable off-piste skiing.
Mellow, wide and easy to navigate, the pistes themselves tend to be more suited to beginners and early intermediates. So this resort is ideal if you have that awkward mix of learners and experts in your group!
Usually one of the last resorts in Norway to close, Myrkdalen is open every day until 30 April so there's plenty of time to get some turns in before the season ends!

Norefjell
"Great place. friendly and welcoming. Slopes are a dream, minimal waits for lifts and plenty of variety."
With our team enjoying numerous powder days in March and April 2023, Norefjell was always going to make it onto this list!
And we're pleased to say that the reports from this winter are just as good too. Our friend Geir from Norway Home of Skiing (who lives in Norefjell) sent us these clips from Monday 13 February 2024 and hopefully they dispel any misconceptions about the quality of the skiing in Norway!
As with Gausta and Myrkdalen, the marked runs tend to lean more towards the beginner and early-intermediate level, but there are some really exciting runs to be found just off the pistes.
Aside from the snow, we love that Norefjell never gets busy. The majority of the accommodation is at the fantastic Norefjell Ski & Spa and even when it's fully booked the slopes stay super quiet.

Canada
It's fair to say that Canada had a slow first half of the season for snow, but conditions have improved significantly in February and March is often one of the snowiest months!
Resorts are so snow-sure that many stay open into May, and you'll often find the Ski Safari team out on the slopes in April when the days are long and sunny.
Banff
"Banff is fantastic. It offers three ski areas so there's more than enough terrain to keep even the most demanding skiers or boarders happy, including loads of off-piste and some seriously challenging steeps. Off piste, the town's restaurant and bar scenes are a definite plus, and so are the reasonable prices. I'd highly recommend it."
April (aka ‘the secret month’) is when Banff locals come out to play, enjoying long, sunny days on empty, snowy slopes… and with typical Canadian spirit, they’d love for you to join them!
Book for April 2024 and benefit from discounts on accommodation, lift passes and rentals, plus kids ski and rent free - even over the Easter school holidays.
13+ hours of daylight, comfortable temperatures just below zero and as much as two metres of snowfall in March and April produce some of the best spring skiing conditions in the world. So good in fact, that you can ski right through to 20 May this season.
Your SkiBig3 lift pass gives you access to all 3,358 acres at Sunshine Village, plus 4,200 at Lake Louise and 190 at Mt Norquay - where Alberta’s longest and fastest tube park is also included.
