Our Big Mountain Ski Safari is a ski trip of gigantic proportions, tackling the vast terrain and legendary couloirs of two of North America's most iconic ski destinations: Big Sky and Jackson Hole.
- Powder
- Off the Beaten Track
- Once-in-a-Lifetime
- Non-Ski Activities
Home to two of the biggest vertical drops in North America and some of the most challenging terrain in the world, we can't think of a better combination for expert skiers - less than 4 hours apart and both featuring on the Ikon Pass too.
Fairly unknown outside of the US, Big Sky in Montana boasts North America's third-largest ski area with 5,800 acres of mostly advanced terrain.
There's skiing for all abilities, but the resort excels for expert skiers and snowboarders. Back in 2019, Big Sky introduced a 'triple black diamond' rating for most of the runs off Lone Mountain. Expect steep chutes and cliff drops and definitely hire a guide if you're heading up the Lone Peak Tram.
Jackson Hole needs no introduction for diehard skiers. The iconic resort has invested heavily in the beginner and intermediate experience but is still best known for steep and deep skiing. We also love the infectious cowboy vibe of Jackson Town, where better to relive the day's best runs than on a stool at the Million Dollar Cowboy, rubbing elbows with the local powder hounds.
The Ikon Pass offers seven days of skiing in each resort, ideal for a two week twin-centre, or why not extend your itinerary with a day trip or short stay in Yellowstone National Park? Sitting perfectly between the two resorts, it's the ideal way to rest your legs exploring the USA's first-ever national park. It's also possible to add a day's skiing in Grand Targhee, just 1.5 hours from Jackson Hole.
The road trips are particularly easy on this ski safari and, with airports near both Big Sky and Jackson Hole, there’s no need to backtrack. Ski Safari customer Jan Clifford described it as 'the most perfect road trip from start to finish'. Read her full account on our blog.
P.S. New for 2024/2025, this ski safari is now also available with shared transfers instead of car hire.
"This is the most exciting ski safari I’ve done. It combines two of the best ski resorts in North America, Big Sky and Jackson Hole, with an easy four-hour drive through Yellowstone National Park."
