City Add-Ons
When you think of Norway, the fjords and their dramatic scenery are usually one of the first things that spring to mind. Most visit in the summertime when their tranquillity can be undermined by their popularity. This trip, however, gives you the best of both worlds, allowing you to enjoy their unrivalled beauty and serenity during the blissfully quiet winter months. Plus, you get to combine this with Norway’s favourite winter pastime - skiing - on uncrowded and snowsure slopes in Myrkdalen or Voss. It’s the perfect combination.
Each morning, you'll move less than 50 metres from the hotel to the chairlift or gondola to enjoy two of Europe’s most snowsure resorts, where five metres of snow falls every winter. If you can't decide which resort to ski, you can always do both! Voss and Myrkdalen can be skied on the same lift pass and are only 19 miles apart from each other, accessible by car or ski bus.
While Myrkdalen has wonderfully gentle terrain for beginners, there are plenty of challenges for intermediates. If you're more experienced, there are some really exciting off-piste runs to be had too - as discovered by Fall-Line Magazine: Myrkdalen: Norway’s Snow-Covered, Sidecountry Secret. Some of the off-piste terrain hits 45 degrees and retains excellent powder conditions even late into the season - the lifts in Myrkdalen are open right up to 01 May.
Then there's Voss, which has excellent terrain for all preferences. Beginners will enjoy the long, broad runs with ample space for turning, while intermediates have a large playground of runs to explore, including a huge slalom course (also referred to as The World Cup Course). Being one of Norway's snowiest resorts, powder days are frequent throughout the season, offering plenty of playful off-piste skiing opportunities too.
Visiting Flåm during the quiet and uncrowded winter months, you’ll find it hard to believe this small village is one of Norway’s top three summer attractions. The seasonal contrast is almost as dramatic as the scenery. Bordering the banks of the Aurlandsfjord and surrounded by steep snow-capped mountains and frozen waterfalls, Flåm is a real treat for the senses.
During your stay, a tour of the panoramic views of the Aurlandsfjord is included - be prepared to have your breath taken away. The Stegastein Viewpoint, elevated 650 metres above the Aurlandsfjord, cantilevers you 30 metres out from the mountainside so you can enjoy the spectacular views.
